Singapore Math Level 2 Curriculum Review

Singapore Math Level 2 Curriculum Review

Our Experience

We loved this curriculum. In addition to the colorful pages, this math curriculum kept our children engaged. The books are divided into 2 semesters – 2A and 2B. Additionally, I purchased the Home Instructor Guide so that I could provide continuity from level 1 to level 2. We read the textbook explanations and worked the textbook problems together. Once the kids were finished with the corresponding workbook problems (independently), I would check their answers and discuss any difficulties they may have experienced. I would also suggest adding either the Intensive Practice Book or math drills that can be found on many free websites. There are no tests in Singapore math, but there are review pages after each section. These reviews will tell you if your child is ready to move on to the next concept or not.

The Facts

In order to use Singapore to its fullest advantage, you will need to purchase the text books and workbooks for both 2A and 2B, as well as the Home Instructor’s Guide. Singapore is published in different formats. There is  a version of Singapore used by schools, simply called Singapore Math. This version of Singapore does not cover as much information and the formatting is not as user friendly – this version is widely available in “School Stores.” Most Homeshoolers prefer the Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition – which is what I suggest. The U.S. edition covers both standard and metric measurement and the material is presented in a manner that ensures life-long retention. Singapore uses mental math and word problems much earlier than other math curricula, which proves advantageous in later years for upper school math.
